Jay Niblick, author of What’s Your Genius?, conducted a very interesting 7 year scientific research study where 197 000 of the world’s most successful people were interviewed. It was concluded that they all share 2 key traits:
- Self-awareness
- Authenticity
Self-awareness is defined as your level of awareness for your natural “mental” talents based on how you think and make decisions. The average person on the street has an average awareness of 57%. Those most successful as interviewed in the study, have a level of awareness reaching almost 90%.
Authenticity means how “true” you are to your greatest natural talents, how well you incorporate them into what you do and how you do it. The most successful people maximize their natural talents and outsource the things that they are not great at.
The conclusion of this study is that self-awareness combined with authenticity equals increased production with twice the performance and half the effort.
Therefore, if you want to reach the Genius level, maximize your results and increase your success in any given area, you need to reach higher levels of both self-awareness and authenticity.
What are some simple ways for you to do that?
Start asking yourself good questions. For example, a good question to ask yourself would be: What are my patterns of positive and negative behavior? Take note of the things you do, the way you feel and how you think. Ask yourself: Why?
Reflect on whether you are living on the cause side of the equation or on the effect side. Simply put, we are either taking charge of our life or we are reacting to our circumstances. Which side do you fall on most of the time? Cause or effect?
Compile a list of your strengths and weaknesses. Then ask yourself which of these do you use on a daily basis? Do you maximize your natural talents every day? Do you focus on the things you are good at consistently? Or are you distracted by everything else and expend a lot of energy on things that you are not great at? What changes can you make in order to be able to live more authentically?
